Overview

Solmate is designed with privacy at its core. We believe that classroom insights should never come at the cost of student privacy.

Data Collection

By default, Solmate detects voice activity without recording full audio content. The device processes audio locally and only stores participation event counts (timestamps and duration).

Name-Free Mode

Schools can operate Solmate in name-free mode, where participation events are tracked without any student identifiers. This provides aggregate insights for pacing and engagement without individual attribution.

Optional Roster Mapping

With explicit school administrator approval, teachers can map participation events to student rosters. This feature is optional and requires proper consent and data handling agreements.

Data Retention

Schools control data retention policies through the admin dashboard. Data can be automatically deleted after configurable periods (e.g., end of semester, end of year).

FERPA Compliance

Solmate provides tools and guidance to help schools maintain FERPA compliance. We work with school administrators to ensure proper configuration of access controls, retention policies, and data handling procedures.
